Dr Pedro Moreira

Pedro is currently a Senior Clinical Teacher at the Morecambe Dental Education Centre. He is actively involved in the clinical teaching of undergraduate dental students as well as other aspects of their learning experience.

Pedro has been in clinical practice since August 1996. From August 1996 to June de 2001 was the Clinical Director of Supradente, Clínica Médico-Dentária, Lda. – Valongo, Portugal, and also the Clinic Administrator. From December of 2000 to July of 2003, he embraced a Public Health project in Cerva – Ribeira de Pena, Portugal. From June of 2003 to December 2004, he was Acting Clinical Director of Vitalminho Clinic in Braga, Portugal. From January 2005 to February 2009, he was Senior Dental Officer of the East Lancashire tPCT. From February 2005 to February 2009, Pedro performed regular clinical work on the General Anaesthesia Sessions for Paediatric Patients of the Community Dental Service of East Lancashire teaching Primary Care Trust at the Burnley General Hospital – Burnley.

Since February 2005, he performs regular clinical work in the Emergency Dental Service at the Accrington Victoria Community Hospital, from March 2008 at Oak House DEC - Accrington. From March 2005 to October 2005, he was a Clinical Assistant of the Oral Surgery Department of the Burnley General Hospital. From May 2005 to February 2009, Pedro performed regular clinical work on the General Anaesthesia Sessions for Special Needs patients of the Community Dental Service of East Lancashire teaching Primary Care Trust at the Burnley General Hospital. From October 2005 to June 2008, he was involved with the Sure Start Program of Burnley Wood – Duke Bar performing clinical work on the Mobile Clinic of the East Lancashire teaching Primary Care Trust. From October 2005 to May 2006, he participated as a guest tutor on the Outreach Teaching Programme of the Liverpool University for final-year Dental Students. From March 2009 to December 2019, he worked as Senior Dental Officer of the Community Dental Service, Pennine Care NHS FT, based at Moorgate PCC - Bury. From March 2009 to December 2019, he acted as Line Manager for the Oral Health Promotion Team of the Community Services Bury, Pennine Care NHS FT. From March 2009 to December 2019, he performed regular clinical work on the General Anaesthesia Sessions for Paediatric Patients of the Community Dental Service, Pennine Care NHS FT at the Royal Bolton Hospital – Bolton and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital – Liverpool.

From March 2009 to December 2019, he performed regular clinical work on the General Anaesthesia Sessions for Special Needs patients of the Community Dental Service, Pennine Care NHS FT at the Fairfield General Hospital – Bury. From March 2009 to December 2019, Pedro was involved with the postgraduate training of Foundation Dentists 1 and Dental Core Trainees 1. He provided tutorials and clinical support when required in the areas of dental care under general anaesthesia, dental care in domiciliary settings, general clinical practice (restorative and oral surgery) as part of his role with the Community Dental Service, Pennine Care NHS FT.

Pedro was part of the pool of appraisers of the Primary Care Dental Practitioner Appraisal Project of the East Lancashire tPCT. He was part of the pool of Complaints and Incident investigators of Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust. From September 2012 to October 2018, he was acting co-head of the Community Dental Service – Bury, hosted by Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust with responsibility for appraisals and job planning of the salaried dentists of the Community Dental Service – Bury. From October 2018 to December 2019, he was a Clinical Teacher divided between the Morecambe and Carlisle Dental Education Centres as well as the Preston Campus. He sat on the Steering Group of the Emergency Dental Service of Lancashire Care NHS FT, as Voluntary Clinical Lead until March 2020. He now has the opportunity to bring this amount of diverse experiences to the delivery of Dentistry Teaching as a Senior Clinical Teacher at Morecambe DEC.
