Since 2014 Anna has been responsible for the part time MSc course in oral surgery, and has participated in both the academic and clinical teaching and assessments of qualified dentists studying for the Master’s degree. Anna has been the module lead for DX3003 (Applied clinical science, BSc Dental studies) for the past five years and she has been a module tutor for DG2001 (Oral development and anatomy, 2nd BDS) and DG1006 (Preclinical sciences BSc(Hons) Dental Hyg/Therap) at UCLan for the past four years. Anna is also involved with the supervision of the dissertation students on the MSc and BSc courses.
Anna has been a dental practitioner for 23 years and worked both in practice and the hospital service. Early on in her career she worked as a House Officer at Manchester Dental Hospital and this is where her interest for oral surgery started. After working in general dental practice for several years (with a continued interest in oral surgery and dental implants), Anna completed an MSc in oral surgery in 2013 and gained a distinction at UCLan School of Medicine and Dentistry. In 2013 Anna took up the role of clinical teacher on the two-year clinical dental technician course at UCLan, and in 2014 she was appointed as a senior clinical teacher at the School of Medicine and Dentistry. In February 2017 Anna gained her PGCert LTHE at UCLan, and she is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Anna gained her MFDS in 2016 at the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh and was awarded the MFDS Royal College of Surgeons England ad eundem the same year. Anna is a member of both colleges and a member of the faculty of dental trainers at the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. Anna has clinical training in dental implantology and intravenous sedation and has completed the Royal College of Surgeons courses on CBCT imaging and reporting. Anna works in general dental practice delivering both general dentistry and minor oral surgery services on the tier two scheme. Anna is currently studying part time for a PhD at UCLan School of Pharmacy and biomedical Sciences. Her research is focused on the oral microbiome’s involvement in Alzheimer ’s disease, and how oral bacteria affect the blood brain barrier. Anna is an approved performer on the Fylde Tier 2 Minor oral surgery scheme and works in general dental practice in the Preston area.
