A bursary to support students who are care-leavers or estranged from their family, to transition to employment of post-graduate study.

We understand that students with experience of care or those who are estranged from their family, can face additional challenges when transitioning from their time at university to employment or post-graduate study. This bursary is intended to help with the costs of setting up new accommodation, buying interview clothes and bridging the gap between graduating and employment or further study. 

How is the value received?

The bursary will be paid as a lump sum in one instalment directly from UCLan finance into your bank account.  


Undergraduate students who are registered with the University as a care-leaver or estranged from their families, who have confirmed and evidenced their status. Students who meet this eligibility criteria will be invited to attend a careers appointment to get bespoke support for progressing onto graduate employment or post-graduate study. Those who attend the appointment will be awarded the £500 bursary when they graduate.

Excludes the following programmes: Distance learning | Degree apprenticeship | Pre-sessional 

How to apply

If you have applied for our Care-leaver or Estranged student bursary and found to be eligible, you will automatically be invited to a Careers appointment.
