University to run free community poetry workshops on coming to terms with bereavement
Local people who have experienced bereavement are invited to take part in a series of free writing workshops run by the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan).
Dr Yvonne Reddick, an award-winning poet and creative writing lecturer from the University, is working with the Harris Museum and Art Gallery to run three workshops for local people dealing will bereavement who would like to learn how writing poetry can help them.
Entitled Writing for Wellbeing: Loss, Bereavement and Remembering, participants are encouraged to take part in all three linked workshops on Wednesdays 23 and 30 August, and 6 September 6.00pm – 7.45pm.
"This is for anyone who has experienced bereavement and would like to learn how writing poetry can help them."
Dr Reddick commented: “This is for anyone who has experienced bereavement and would like to learn how writing poetry can help them.
“They will learn how to use writing as a way of expressing themselves, and finding ways to help them remember someone who has passed away. Participants will get to meet people who have also lost someone, in a supportive and friendly environment. They don’t need to have had any experience of writing to attend and counsellor Peter Cardew will also be available for people to speak to on a one-to-one basis for extra support.”
The three sessions will broadly look at remembering a loved one through their possessions, exploring the idea of loss and how other societies remember loved ones and how paintings can inspire poetry.
The three Writing for Wellbeing: Loss, Bereavement and Remembering workshops are free but participants needs to register.
