Businesses in Lancashire can upskill their senior managers with a government funded Master’s degree at UCLan.
The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is offering a fantastic opportunity for employers to access government funding to upskill their senior managers.
Businesses and managers are invited to find out how a Master’s degree apprenticeship could help develop their management workforce at a special webinar.
The webinar will take place on Wednesday 22 April from 12pm – 2pm and will give businesses and managers the opportunity to learn more about the course and to ask questions. Current students will be on hand at the webinar to answer any questions.
The course is funded by the government levy and has previously had employees studying at both UCLan’s Preston and Burnley campuses from SME’s and large levy paying organisations throughout Lancashire. UCLan has a course starting 20 August 2020.
This is an opportunity to join an educational programme whilst working within a senior management position. This apprenticeship assessments are designed to facilitate study that is linked to the business and can therefore directly impact on the growth of the business. Ideas that are generated on the course can be developed into initiatives for business growth.
Emily Hawkins, a current apprentice reflects on the impact of the MBA on her personal and career development: “The MBA has transformed my life both in work and in the way I think about other areas of my life. I would recommend the course; it’s a great opportunity to gain an MBA through the levy. I have learnt so much about how other areas of the business run and how that impacts on the department I work in.”
Paula Reynier, course leader explained the benefits to both the businesses and the students: “From a student perspective, the government and your employer pay your tuition fees, so you won’t need to take out a tuition fee loan.
"From an employer perspective, this MBA degree apprenticeship is an inexpensive way for your organisation to attract and retain talented employees, develop your workforce, fill skills gaps and improve your organisation’s performance."

The MBA apprenticeship is specifically designed to deliver on work-based learning opportunities and to develop employees’ personal and professional skills. The learners study at UCLan, but also implement some of their new learning in to the workplace so the businesses have the potential to see a real impact in the application of the knowledge.
This is an investment for the future. With the current Covid-19 pandemic, businesses and employees may need to rethink their roles and the way they undertake their businesses. This course may help them to learn new ways of working.
The programme will start in August 2020 and run until October 2022. This Master’s degree apprenticeship allows the employee to work while also studying for an MBA.
Stephen Haraldsen, Executive MBA course leader at UCLan would welcome enquires from employers and potential apprentices about the apprenticeship.
