Mental health nursing student Rebecca to compete in World’s Strongest Woman competition
A mental health nursing student from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) will put her physical strength to the test this week by competing in the 2021 World’s Strongest Woman competition.
Rebecca Crumpsty, 38, is heading to The Official Strongman Games in Daytona Beach, Florida, to test her mettle again hundreds of top Strongwoman athletes from around the world.
The two-time Britain’s Strongest Woman under 82kg winner is aiming for a podium finish at the three-day event, which will see her compete in six categories including carrying a 275kg car on her back, log press repetitions and the famous Atlas Stone lifts.
"My goal is to make the podium and stand alongside some of the sport’s greatest athletes. My favourite events are those with lifts above head height, so I’ll be looking to excel in this area. "

Rebecca, who broke the world log record in the under 82kg category in 2019 with a 115kg lift, said: “My goal is to make the podium and stand alongside some of the sport’s greatest athletes. My favourite events are those with lifts above head height, so I’ll be looking to excel in this area. I absolutely love the sport and enjoy being part of a strong, close-knit community. I even met my partner, Ryan Oldfield, through the sport.”
The mum-of-two from Walton-le-Dale has been training and competing in the sport since 2015. Rebecca trains for around two hours a day, five days a week and juggles this with family life and her University studies.
Rebecca began her nursing degree this September after working in mental health for the last 20 years. She said: “I’ve worked across the spectrum of mental health and like working with people to help them enjoy a meaningful life and not be defined by a mental health stigma. Now my sons are older, I feel like I’m ready to take the next step and study for my nursing degree.
"Patients see me face my fears and set myself challenges and although I may not always get it right, I always strive to see the positives and learn from my mistakes."

“I definitely feel experiences from my sport and career feed into each other. Patients see me face my fears and set myself challenges and although I may not always get it right, I always strive to see the positives and learn from my mistakes.”
The Official Strongman Games begins on Friday, 14 November. People can follow Rebecca’s journey via the Official Strongman Games website.
