SPARK 2024 will help match degree apprentices with regional employers

The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is hosting a free one-day event aimed at matchmaking the right apprentices with the right employers.

SPARK 2024 The Apprenticeship Marketplace will provide the opportunity for employers and potential degree apprentices to ‘speed interview’ in the hope of finding new recruits for regional businesses.

Throughout the event, being held on UCLan’s Preston Campus on 18 April, recruiters from a wide variety of sectors will promote degree apprenticeship job opportunities or work placements which may lead to a full-time apprenticeship.

Martin Blunt, Head of UCLan’s Enterprise & Engagement Unit, said: “SPARK 2024 is such a fantastic event for both potential employees and the North West’s business community as it allows employers of all sizes to meet with potential apprentices on a one-to-one basis.

“It means businesses can raise their profile and speak with potential candidates, who are the next generation of our workforces, on a more meaningful level than reading through an application form or a CV.

“We know employers want new recruits who are a good fit for their company’s culture and goals and this day gives those apprentices the chance to pitch themselves and impress.”

Degree apprenticeships, which allow people to earn while they learn, are available in subject areas including engineering, digital marketing, digital and technology solutions, legal and justice and chartered management.

Last year the University ran the first SPARK matchmaking event and launched its Apprenticeship Matching Service.

"We matched a good number of apprentices with employers at last year’s event and we hope to build on that this year as we’ve already got more than 150 candidates signed up to attend"

Martin commented: “Degree apprenticeships are very popular for many people who want to study for a fully funded degree but combine that with work.

Edwin J Booth CBE DL, Chairman of the supermarket chain Booths and UCLan Honorary Fellow, is this year’s keynote speaker.

The event is taking place in UCLan’s Foster Social Space from 9.30am to 3pm.

If you are an employer you can register online and if you are an apprentice you can register online.
