University to host individual family tours to ensure potential students can still explore Preston campus

The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) will open its doors to potential students and their families to give them an Open Day experience with a difference.

Due to recent government pandemic updates, the University’s physical Open Day on the 26 June can no longer take place. However, UCLan is keen to welcome visitors where possible and will instead host a dedicated weekend of campus tours for individual family groups on the 25, 26 and 27 June.

UCLan Chief Marketing Officer Ruth Connor said: “We are of course disappointed not to be able to host our full Open Day experience as planned but safety is paramount, and we are committed to following government guidelines.

"We’ve been hosting campus tours for individual families for the last few weeks and have received fantastic feedback. We will roll these out for an extended period over the weekend of the 25, 26 and 27 June to safely welcome as many visitors as we can onto campus.

"We appreciate how important it is for future students and their families to get a proper feel for the University and our campus tours go a long way towards providing this."

“We appreciate how important it is for future students and their families to get a proper feel for the University and our campus tours go a long way towards providing this.

"Visitors can chat to current students about life at UCLan, view where they will be studying, visit our Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre, view the new multi-million pound Student Centre and University Square and also check out our library, our accommodation facilities and what clubs and societies they might want to join through our Students’ Union.”

The weekend of extended campus tours is expected to be popular, so people are advised to book early via the UCLan website to avoid disappointment. All tours can accommodate up to a group of five people and depart from Foster Square, next to the brand-new Engineering Innovation Centre. They will last approximately one hour.

The tours will follow a virtual Open Day this Saturday, 19 June, which includes subject presentations, chats with tutors and current students and the chance to speak to staff about accommodation and support services. This can also be booked on the UCLan website.
