Award recognises Dr Samuel Dearman’s contribution to healthcare strategy
The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) has awarded Dr Samuel Dearman with an Honorary Professorship in recognition of his contribution to UCLan’s healthcare strategy.
Professor Dearman is the Director of Medical Education at both North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust (NCUH) and Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT).
A Consultant Psychiatrist, he has been instrumental in supporting the School of Medicine’s aims to develop medical education in Cumbria, strengthen partnerships with local healthcare providers and develop the delivery of services.
As part of this, he has worked closely with academics to facilitate the arrival of students embarking upon the innovative Bachelor Medicine Bachelor Surgery (MBBS) degree programme in the region in September.
His work has also seen him coordinating activities in the area from an NHS perspective, contributing to the positive report received following a visit from the General Medical Council (GMC).
Professor Dearman will work closely with the School on the future delivery of medical student and Physician Associate (PA) programs in Cumbria and will also contribute to the design of curricula in relation to mental health education, an area in which he has a special interest.

Professor Dearman said: “The development of WCMEC, which includes the Medical School campus, is a landmark for Cumbria and the partnership with UCLan forms a vital part of our healthcare strategy. It has been a privilege to be part of making this happen and of course to receive this new title.
“I look forward to welcoming, teaching and developing our students and trainees, to nurturing our local faculty and doing what I can to advance the education of the next generation of our clinicians.”
UCLan’s School of Medicine offers a range of clinical programmes including an integrated Masters of Physician Associate Studies to produce physician associates, in addition to postgraduate programmes aimed at helping practitioners develop specialist skills and knowledge.
