The University of Central Lancashire’s (UCLan) take on the ‘mannequin challenge’ starring more than 1,000 people at yesterday’s graduation ceremony has proved to be a huge hit.
Created by and featuring current students and staff, the graduation mannequin challenge has attracted almost 80,000 views in less than 24 hours on the University’s Facebook page.
The clip was filmed as part of a promotional video due to be released in January. Graduation proceedings were halted to shoot the sequence before quickly editing it and composing the accompanying music.
Executive Dean of the Faculty of Culture and the Creative Industries Dr Andrew Ireland said: “It’s a great piece of work and very on-trend. It’s actually part of a bigger project showcasing the student journey but we didn’t want to waste the opportunity to share a graduation ceremony in a fun and innovative way. It’s certainly proved to be popular on social media.
“The students and staff worked together to pull the whole thing off in a very short amount of time, even the soundtrack was composed by our music production students. It’s a great example of hard work, teamwork and professionalism.”
The UCLan graduation mannequin will feature in a promotional video early next year sharing the many stages of student life.
