University’s Commonwealth students
The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) has hosted a Commonwealth Day event to celebrate more than 600 students from 28 Commonwealth countries studying at UCLan.
To mark Commonwealth Day on the 12 March, the event offered advice for students on studying abroad and taking the next step in their education.
To show how the 2.4 billion citizens living in Commonwealth countries are connected around the world, a world map was placed in the centre of the room for students to pin their nationality to and with a piece of string link back to the UK. The University has an additional connection to the Commonwealth through its campus in Cyprus.
"The event brought the University community together. It really is great to show off such a diverse range of students and I think everyone involved can be proud."
The Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire, Lord Shuttleworth, commented on the UCLan Commonwealth Connect event, saying it would: “provide a great platform on which Commonwealth countries can showcase trade and relationship opportunities.”
Event organiser Matt Swales commented: “The event brought the University community together. It really is great to show off such a diverse range of students and I think everyone involved can be proud.”
The event was hailed a success with a variety of people turning up from different backgrounds and ethnicities, leaving the world map full of pins and strings.
