Sarah and Lisa win big at Women in Business awards

Two members of staff from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) have been recognised for their outstanding commitment and dedication to the University at an annual business awards ceremony.

Winners of the Chief Executive and Female Leader of the Year awards at The Women in Business Awards 2017, Sarah Warren and Lisa Banks were presented with their prizes at a glittering ceremony hosted by Downtown Business in Lancashire at The Villa, Wrea Green, on Thursday 23 November.

Sarah was acknowledged for her dedication, commitment and loyalty to the University as well as her continued support to young entrepreneurs across the region. Lisa was recognised for her work behind the scenes in the arrival of the hurricane hit students from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) onto campus in October. The judges felt that this was a fantastic use of a professional service.

"The quality of the nominees and the winners who attended on Thursday really reflects the breadth of entrepreneurism, leadership and inspiration in Lancashire."

Sarah Warren, Brand and Stakeholder Development Manager at UCLan, said: “I am incredibly proud to have been given the prestigious Chief Executive’s Award. It was a complete surprise, I thought I was there to present an award – not win one.

“The quality of the nominees and the winners who attended on Thursday really reflects the breadth of entrepreneurism, leadership and inspiration in Lancashire.”

Lisa Banks, Director of Student Services at UCLan, said: “I am truly honoured to have been awarded Female Leader of the Year. I would very much like to thank all those who voted for me and I am hugely touched by the lovely messages I have received.

“To be a successful leader, you have to have a wonderful team and I am very privileged to work with some of the very best at UCLan.”

An annual event for the third year running, the awards were attended by more than 200 business leaders to celebrate the female entrepreneurs and decision-makers of the county.

Frank McKenna, CEO of Downtown in Business, added: “The quality of nominees and winners this year were superb. As always, the Lancashire audience was first class and we had a really cracking night celebrating the best in business as far as female entrepreneurship and leadership is concerned.”
