UCLan recognised for its strong support of Chinese culture
The University of Central Lancashire’s (UCLan) Confucius Institute (CI) has been recognised for its strong support of Chinese culture.
At a recent board meeting Professor Jian Cai, Director of the International Office at Beijing International Studies University (BISU), thanked UCLan for its strong support of the CI.
BISU Vice-President Professor Ming Qiu was impressed by the wide range and variety of events and activities undertaken by the UCLan CI, which has developed rapidly over the past eight years. He praised the depth of cultural engagement reflected in many of its events such as the law and poetry conferences.
Tim Steele, UCLan’s Executive Director/Vice-President of International Operations, echoed the words of Professor Qiu regarding the achievement of the CI in 2015 and thanked the hard work of the CI directors, staff and the support of BISU in staffing and in resources. He highlighted the large number of local people who were engaged in the CI’s community engagement work last year.
The Board also discussed planned activities for 2016 in the areas of teaching, research, community engagement and cultural events.
This meeting was followed by a business development event which discussed UCLan’s aim to seek developmental partnerships in research, staff exchange, joint funding bids, as well as student recruitment.
