UCLan to run free Writing for Wellbeing workshops at Harris Museum

The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is holding a series of special workshops to support members of the local community in coping with bereavement.

The Writing for Wellbeing sessions will look at how poetry can be used as a form of expression and a way of remembering someone who has passed away.

They will be run by UCLan academics Dr Yvonne Reddick, poet and Research Fellow in Modern English and World Literatures, and Peter Cardew, counsellor and Senior Lecturer and Course Leader in Counselling and Psychotherapy Studies.

"You don’t need to have any writing experience to attend, and the sessions will take place in a relaxed, friendly environment with people who have lost loved ones"

Held at the Harris Museum, Art Gallery and Library, the first session will take place on Wednesday 11 April from 6.00pm - 7.45pm, and then at the same time on Wednesday 25 April, Wednesday 9 May, Wednesday 23 May, Wednesday 6 June and Wednesday 20 June.

Yvonne said: “Throughout the six sessions we will be exploring approaches to grief and healing, as well as the different stages we go through when experiencing bereavement. We’ll also be exploring writing techniques and looking at how poems can help us retain memories.

“You don’t need to have any writing experience to attend, and the sessions will take place in a relaxed, friendly environment with people who have lost loved ones. Peter will also be there on a one-to-one basis for participants who feel like they would like some extra support in dealing with a loss.”
