Sports and PE lecturer John Morgan recognised for 34-year career
A sports lecturer from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) has been honoured for a lifetime’s dedication to teaching sport in the county.
John Morgan, a sports and PE lecturer at UCLan, won the Lancashire Lifetime Achievement award for the Blackburn area at the Lancashire Sports Awards in honour of his 34-year career. John was nominated by colleagues from Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Blackburn after working there for the last 11 years before coming to UCLan.
John said: “It’s a wonderful accolade and something I’m very proud of. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my teaching career and to be recognised for my contribution by colleagues is wonderful.”
John, who hails from Bridgend in South Wales, has lived in Longridge for the last 27 years having also worked at Preston’s College and as a rugby coach for Blackburn, Preston Grasshoppers and Vale of the Lune during this time.
After retiring from full-time teaching during the summer, the 58-year-old married father of two is now working part-time at UCLan to train the PE teachers of the future.
John added: “Teaching people to teach is something different but I’m really enjoying it. “A good teacher needs to be enthusiastic and that’s why I love working with the students at UCLan because they’re all so positive and open to ideas.”
