University community comes together to help new students settle into life on campus

The University of Central Lancashire’s (UCLan) new arrivals have enjoyed a fun-filled start to their life in Preston.

Circus acts, bands, a string quartet and a DJ were among the entertainment acts on display as thousands of students collected the keys and moved into their halls of residence on Sunday.

Help to move those essentials into their rooms came from a variety of sources including the University’s volleyball, rugby union, hockey, American football and cheerleading teams.

The fun continued into the evening in the Students’ Union where the newcomers enjoyed a range of events including live music, games, inflatables and a barbeque.

"I really enjoyed hearing how enthusiastic and motivated the new students are and how they can’t wait to start their University life with us."

Vice-Chancellor Professor Mike Thomas spent the day walking round the Preston Campus meeting new students and their families. He said: “Reception Sunday is both an exciting and emotional day for students and parents. What I really enjoyed was hearing how enthusiastic and motivated the new students are and how they can’t wait to start their University life with us.”

Activities during the upcoming Welcome Week include a selection of fairs, hip hop ping pong, an inflatable assault course, themed meal evenings and an outdoor cinema before teaching starts on 25 September.
