Final year pharmacy students to provide free health checks on 11 November
People can drop into the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) next week for a free general health check.
On Friday 11 November between 10.00am and 4.00pm, final year pharmacy students will be on hand to check people’s height, weight, body mass index (BMI) and blood pressure, as well as offering more general health advice.
Run by School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences, the UCLan Ask your Pharmacist event has been organised to provide students with essential hands-on patient contact and benefit the local community at the same time.
Senior pharmacy lecturer Ann Urmston said: “We want people to pop in for a free health MOT and share any concerns they may have so that we can check their general health, point out any concerns and also signpost our visitors to relevant medical professionals.

“The students are on the brink of beginning their pharmacist careers and will be supported by qualified staff from the School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences.”
The National Forum for Health and Wellbeing (NFHW), a local charity that specialises in helping local communities to take greater responsibility for protecting and managing their own health, is supporting the event.
Ask your Pharmacist will take place on Friday 11 November between 10.00am and 4.00pm in Foster Social Space, Foster Building. There is no need to book, just turn up on the day. For more information, email AUrmston@uclan.ac.uk or SSeymour3@uclan.ac.uk
