Maria secures dream job in F1 industry
A University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) graduate is in pole position for a successful career after landing a job in Formula 1 straight out of University.
First-class journalism graduate Maria Bright is a communications intern at BWT Alpine F1 Team and will spend the next year working in variety of roles, including internal and external communications, social media, writing press releases and filming at events.
The 21-year-old from Shropshire said: “To be able to say I work in F1 feels very surreal. Motorsport is essentially my world and I’ve been a Kart racer myself since I was 10-years-old. I never imagined that I would work for an F1 team straight after university so this a huge opportunity to launch my career.
“Hopefully I can stay in the industry and achieve my dreams of being on the race team and travelling the world via F1 races.”

Maria has made the most of her time at UCLan and completed several work placements during her studies, including at Lancs Live, Females in Motorsport and Planet F1 websites. She also works as a freelancer covering social media for disability motorsport race team, Team Brit.
“Journalism is all about the practical side and ‘doing it’ and I have really relished that opportunity” she said. “I knew getting as much work experience as possible was key to making me stand out amongst other graduates.
"I cannot thank the journo department enough, because of them I have come out of university and gone straight into the industry I adore."

“Throughout the degree I felt as though I was in a family, and that is what makes journalism at UCLan stand out. Everyone cares about each other and pushes you beyond your academic limits so that you can do something one step more than you thought you could.”
Maria added: “I am graduating as a more confident, and incredibly skilled professional and I cannot thank the journo department enough, because of them I have come out of university and gone straight into the industry I adore.”
