French UCLan master's student celebrates his success and makes county his home
A French student who ‘fell in love with the warmth and friendliness of British people’ has made Lancashire his permanent home following his University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) studies.
Jeremy Tousch, who grew up in Strasbourg, came to UCLan in 2015 for the final year of his undergraduate degree in International Business and Communication and liked it so much he stayed on to do a master's. This week, the 22-year-old celebrated gaining a distinction in his MSc Marketing Management degree and securing a job at Limitless Digital in Burnley before he finished his course.
Speaking at his Guild Hall graduation ceremony Jeremy said: “I always wanted to study in the UK and as UCLan is a partner of the University of Strasbourg, where I began my degree, this led me to Preston and I’ve never looked back."
"I’ve had an incredible two years in Lancashire and although it’s been challenging at times to learn so much in a different language, England is my home now. I’ve fallen in love with it."
“Gaining confidence in my English language skills was hard at first but I met some great friends and worked hard because I knew early on that I wanted to make the UK my home. People from Lancashire are so warm and affectionate, I especially like it when they call people ‘love’. I knew I wanted to live in an English speaking country and anticipated travelling after university but I just feel so settled here.”
Jeremy is now a French Marketing Executive for Limitless Digital and was offered the job six months before he finished his master's. The linguist is able to use his French, German and English language skills in his job and has also used his dissertation in his new role.
He said: “Through my marketing master's I learned a lot of practical skills that I’ve been able to transfer into my job. The market research I did for my dissertation has now been passed onto other teams because my boss was impressed with what I’ve done.”
Jeremy, who lives in Preston City Centre, added: “Graduating with my master's degree makes me incredibly proud. I’ve had an incredible two years in Lancashire and although it’s been challenging at times to learn so much in a different language, England is my home now. I’ve fallen in love with it.”
