Managing Cancer

This module examines the care of people with cancer, and their carers, across the illness trajectory. It's delivered using a blended learning approach and sessions are both face-to-face and online.

The module is delivered by a team with diverse backgrounds in the field on cancer management, including expert guest speakers from practice. Content includes:

Epidemiology, social and environmental aspects
Biology of cancer
Cancer prevention and detection
Diagnosis and staging
Treatment modalities
Side effects and symptom control
Holistic needs assessment
Psychological and spiritual care

The module assessment will provide you with the opportunity to examine patient care in detail. Benchmarking against current national and local standards to demonstrate an evidence-based critical understanding.

The module is supported by high quality evidence-based online resources.
A range of teaching/learning strategies will be utilised in order to provide the best possible learning environment.
These include key lectures from consultant/specialist nurses and academic staff, student seminar presentations, small group work and reflections on practice.
Time is identified within the timetable to allow students access to tutorial support and library skills.
You'll be required to complete a formative and summative assessment for this module.
