Blending theory and practice ready for the real world

Carly May Metcalfe is a student on our BA (Hons) Education and Psychology programme. Here, she tells us about her experience studying at UCLan.

“I’m studying a joint honours course in Education and Psychology. Education looks at different areas and theories to support learning. Meanwhile, Psychology looks at a mix of developmental and social psychology as well as cognition.

“Throughout the Education part of the course we have the chance to go on placement with a large choice of schools in the area. In Psychology, we have the chance to use the labs, including the child lab suite for observation.

"The staff have been fantastic, they are really easy to talk to. They are happy to reply to emails as well as arrange face to face meetings in order to best support all students."

“I have loved getting to know the students on the same course, the support from both staff and students is great. The University campus is great, with access to a brilliant library and cafes on site.

“I chose the University of Central Lancashire because the reviews were very positive and after coming to the open day and getting to meet the staff that swayed me to come here. Preston is a great place to study because there is so much nearby and everything is easy to access.

“Once I graduate, I would love to go into special needs teaching.”
