Hear more from Shadman on why he chose to study Medicine and Surgery at the University of Central Lancashire.
“I was always drawn to medicine as a subject. Both of my elder brothers are doctors in the UK and the skills required to work in the industry resonated with my personality.
“Things such as using fine-motor skills, communication skills and the balance of teamwork and leadership really appealed to me. Not only that, but the empathy and care that is required resonated with my personality and my faith. I wanted to study a subject that was going to help me make a difference.
“The deciding factor to study medicine was that whilst deciding my A levels, my grandfather suffered from a heart attack. This experience made me determined to work in medicine to try and prevent the same thing from happening to other families."
"When I was researching where to study, I was drawn to the University of Central Lancashire due to its modern infrastructure and state of the art facilities."

“Medicine students at UCLan have access to incredible resources such as Anatomage table (a life-size anatomy table) and clinical simulation suite. They also offer early exposure to patient care with placements. These are the reasons I chose to study with UCLan.
“The campus itself is also very new. They recently built a new student centre in the heart of the campus which really enhances the appeal of the University.
“Their commitment to inclusive support stood out as a crucial factor in my decision-making. Knowing that there is a dedicated support system in place gave me confidence in navigating the challenges of academic life as an international student."
“Part of the reasons I like medicine is the challenge, but I felt reassured knowing that there was lots of support on hand, should I need it.
“The recognition by the General Medical Council (GMC) assured me of the institution's high academic standards and further solidified my choice. Additionally, the substantial presence of fellow Mauritians at the University offered a sense of community and familiarity, easing the transition into a new cultural and academic environment.
“Exploring the city of Preston, I discovered a diverse cultural setting that appealed to my appreciation for different perspectives and experiences.
“The prospect of studying in small groups was particularly enticing, as it promised a more personalised and interactive learning experience. Knowing that the lecturers were approachable added to the overall positive atmosphere, assuring me that I would have ample support throughout my academic journey at UCLan."
