Four reasons why Preston is the most underrated Student City in the UK

Biomedical Science student Wesley highlights the everyday benefits to students of studying in Preston.

1. Preston beat London in UK's most improved urban area, we're going places!

Preston achieved above-average improvements for health, transport, work-life balance, and more. There is a large student population in Preston, and you can get directly to Manchester in 39 minutes or London in 2hr 9 minutes (to name a couple!)

2. A more manageable and cheaper lifestyle (spend less on rent!)

If you are from a big city it's nice to have a smaller university experience, bumping into friendly faces from classes doesn't happen in bigger cities.

It makes a massive difference rolling out of bed with just 10 minutes before your lecture and time to grab a coffee vs getting up an hour before so you can make your multiple buses and/or tube. Time between lessons? Go home for a cheeky nap, hang out with friends…

p.s. The average price of a pint of lager = £2.3*.

3. FOOD. Foodies spoke and Preston listened.

Ask any UCLan students, we all love Jaffa's, Coco's and 3 Monkeys – cheap and flavourful i.e. larger than life meaty burritos and aromatic shawarmas for £3-4! Now there are a few newbies in town, if you like spice - wrapchic (Indian/Mexican fast food) - is for you. Or try Friargate's Plau, for a very London-esque food experience.

Clean-eater? HealthShack or Eatwell have a good hearty halloumi or chicken and rice box. Vegans are welcome and catered for.

4. Lancashire's version of the city that never sleeps

We are not boring! If you come alive at night, check out Kuckoo's or Baluga for cocktails, The Adelphi for a pint, or The Mad Ferret for US-style food and live music or for something sporty try Wings & Beer (they screen the NFL Super Bowl!).

For daytime fresh air... try Beacon Fell Country Park, Turbary Woods Owl and Bird of Prey Sanctuary or cycle around Preston Guild Wheel. Avenham Park for a sunny day or venture to the Lake District (under an hour away).
