BA (Hons) Law and Criminology graduate Mairead Platt always wanted to qualify as a solicitor

School of Justice graduate, Mairead Platt, wanted to qualify as a solicitor and opted to go down the traditional route by firstly completing our degree in Law and Criminology.

Mairead's Journey

After graduating, Mairead continued her studies with the University of Central Lancashire and went on to gain her Master’s in Legal Practice part-time whilst completing her training contract at local firm, Dylan Nair Solicitors Limited.

Mairead was keen to pursue a career in corporate law, so upon qualifying, she moved to KBL Solicitors LLP as a newly qualified solicitor where she gained experience in the corporate department. Mairead was then approached by Brabners LLP to join them and is now working as a Corporate Solicitor.

Mairead’s role involves advising SME’s on all corporate matters including mergers and acquisitions, company restructures, and shareholders agreements.

Looking back on her time at UCLan, Mairead said: I made some lasting friendships and still keep in touch with the friends I met. The social aspect of University was great, but there was also a huge amount of support and advice from tutors which was really helpful. I had the opportunity to take part in several extra-curricular activities including mooting and mediation that helped develop my skills.

Mairead has some sound advice for students, she said: “Securing a training contract can be difficult; however, be persistent and don't give up. Keep your options open and try to gain experience along the way.”
