In the recent Capita Staff Survey, UCLan was awarded with 'Employer of Choice' status. Out of over 200 public sector companies Capita work with, UCLan were ranked as one of the top 25 places to work. This survey also revealed, 93 per cent of respondents said they are interested in UCLan, to them it is not just a job and 92 per cent said they enjoy their work.

Living in Preston

UCLan is situated in the heart of Lancashire, in the North West of England. Preston combines a rich cultural history, with the vibrancy of an expanding university city.

Having gained city status in 2002, Preston continues to develop. With a population of 114,300, it is a large and thriving city. With over 30,000 students, UCLan has an important role in local life, making Preston an energetic city, with a buzzing nightlife and a growing arts scene, surrounded by pubs, clubs and restaurants.

Preston boasts a proud cultural diversity and the city hosts numerous annual events in celebration of this. The unique Easter egg rolling event on Avenham Park, the colourful Caribbean Carnival and the Preston Mela Festival of South Asian Culture, ensure that Preston maintains its pride in its flourishing international community.

And if you’re looking further afield, Preston is ideally located for travel to a range of nearby destinations. If it’s picturesque countryside you’re after, the beautiful Lake District is easily accessible by car and train, in less than an hour. Based just off the M6 and with an excellent train service, travelling the UK is an easy journey, with Liverpool and Manchester around an hour away.

With the vast and convenient public transport available near UCLan, and around Preston itself (buses, trains, taxis), you are sure to get the chance to explore.

The prospect of moving anywhere can be a daunting thought, but taking a look at Preston's current house prices can be a nice and welcome surprise. The average house price is currently £141,124. Buying a flat averages at around £84,630, whilst a semi-detached house averages at £225,910.
