Full Profile

Pete is an Animation Director, designer, film maker and part time UCLan lecturer for the Animation BA. He founded the Film Garage in London and has previously worked for several years at Passion Pictures and now works from his studio The Shop, down in London. He has created TV channel branding [amongst others for Discovery, Disney, Hallmark, MTV America, MTV Asia, Channel [V], RUV] and directed commercials [Coca Cola, Duracell, Sanatogen, Time Out], videos for Tom Verlaine, Was Not Was, Pete Shelley and has directed three animated tv series, Captain Star, Spheriks and Bromwell High. His illustrations have been chosen for the Association of Illustrators Best of British Illustration and Best of European Illustration, and his illustrated Wizard of Oz was published in UK and US. Earlier work includes Finalist in RTS, D&AD nomination, Silver Hugo in Chicago, regular collaborator on Steven Applebys cartoon strip in the Guardian and for a year on a daily strip in Frankfurtur Allgemeine Zeitung.  

Pete has received a number of awards from his work , this includes;

  • World Promax for Car Horn orchestra 1996
  • Two British Animation Awards [Best TV series BAA for ‘Bromwell High’ 2006 , Broadcast Design BAA for HAFF titles 2010]
  • Annecy Animation Festival Crystal for ‘How to Destroy the World’ 2009
  • Zagreb Film Festival Best Commissioned film for ‘Oil Story ‘ 2012
  • Honorary Webby for ‘freewheelers’ live action documentary series for Babelgum 2010
  • Reason Video Award 2015 in US for ‘Sintaxes’ for Institute of Economic Affairs London
  • NY Film and TV Festival Gold for MTV ‘Awake on Wildside’  titles 
  • Olivier award nomination as Director of Animation at National Theatre for ‘England people Very Nice ’ 2010 in set design category
  • ‘How to catch Flu’ short and exhibition stand created for Imperial College / MOSAIC chosen for European Science Night at Natural History Museum exhibition nov 2014
  • Gemini Award in Canada for Bromwell High, best animated tv series

The animated shorts ‘How to Destroy the World ’ created for Discovery Channel ,the ‘Ocean Wonderland’ shorts created for Greenpeace and ‘Oil Story’ have each been in over 30 film festivals and won several Environmental Awards and are apart of British Council Archive, and are used in schools in Germany.

Pete is a chocoholic and after years of therapy admits to making the ‘Star trekking across the universe’ video.
