Paul is a physiology lecturer in medical science. He has a particular interest in anatomy and physiology and the pathophysiology of disease. Paul has a BSc Human Biology & Health (Joint Hons) degree (1st class) and a Post-graduate Diploma in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing.

Paul has worked as a nurse in various settings including acute orthopaedics, rehabilitation and elderly care. He has also worked as a Health Visitor, prior to taking his post at UCLAN.

Full Profile

Paul began his career as a Student Nurse at Blackpool School of Nursing in 1988. Following qualification he began working at the orthopaedic unit at Victoria Hospital Blackpool and completed the ENB 219 Foundations in Orthopaedic Care course. During this time he also completed the ENB 998 Teaching and Assessing in Clinical Practice course. Paul has since worked in a variety of community based settings including as Charge Nurse at Pendle Community Hospital in Nelson. This role encompassed both running a G.P. led ward and an Elderly Care ward. Whilst working in this environment Paul completed the ENB 931 Care of the Dying and their Family course.

In 2007 Paul undertook a full-time BSc Human Biology & Health degree and from this began his increased interest in anatomy and pathophysiology. Following completion of this degree Paul has since undertaken a Post-graduate Diploma in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health Visiting) and has worked at Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust as a Health Visitor.

Paul has worked as a lecturer in nursing prior to commencing his position as a physiology lecturer with the school of medicine & dentistry.
