Martin is a qualified solicitor and a former student of UCLan. He is the Course Leader for the blended and part-time law degree and a module leader for several modules. Martin won the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Innovation in Teaching and Learning in 2011 and he was nominated for the UCLan Student Union's 'Lecturer of the Year - Teaching Style' Award.

Qualifications

Martin dealt with a range of predominantly private client work in practice. He specialised in property law and conveyancing. Martin worked for a number of solicitors in the North West region that provided a wide range of services meaning that he has experience in wills and probate, crime, commercial property, matrimonial, litigation, personal injury and employment.

Martin teaches across a wide range of subjects and programmes, including the undergraduate degree courses, GDL, postgraduate Legal Practice Course and professional updating courses.

Martin is the module leader for sports law and has arranged a number of successful talks for students including:

  • Patrick Newall, club solicitor for Fleetwood Town, on 'An in-house career and working in football' in 2013
  • Peter Ridsdale, former chairman of Leeds Utd, Barnsley, Cardiff City and Plymouth Argyle on 'Financial Fair Play and the Salary Cap Management Protocol' in 2012
  • Nick Craig, director of legal affairs at the Football League on 'Sports Law in Football' in 2011
  • Mark Hovell, from the Court of Arbitration(CAS) and George Davies Solicitors LLP,
  • Colin Murdock, former professional footballer with eight clubs including Northern Ireland, Manchester Utd and Preston North End and trainee solicitor on 'CAS and a career in the law' in 2010
  • A ‘Hooliganism & Ground Safety Tour and Discussion ’ at Preston North End FC in 2009
