Kirsty Heimerl-Moggan is a senior lecturer for conference interpreting and course leader for the MA Interpreting and Translation. She is currently undertaking her PhD studies in the field of note-taking for public service interpreters. She has worked as a conference, business and public service interpreter since 1994 and has interpreted in a wide range of settings including international events such as G8/EU meetings.

Kirsty has been teaching interpreting at UCLan since August 2008 and before that taught interpreting at MA level (starting in 1999) at institutions including the University of Leeds, the Sprachen-und Dolmetscher-Institut Munich, Germany and the University of Salford. At UCLan, she is the course leader for the MA in Interpreting and Translation in the School of Languages and International Studies.
Her work in the field of interpreting has involved designing courses for course providers and professional interpreter bodies and most recently designing the MA Interpreting and Translation for UCLan where hitherto no interpreting was taught. A further aspect of her work has been vetting and interviewing interpreters for a number of panels.
As well as teaching conference interpreting, Kirsty teaches Public Service Interpreting on courses such as the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI) in the law, health and local government options, courses for Home Office interpreters, prison interpreters and tailor-made courses for other providers.
She is a practising conference, business and public service interpreter and has interpreted at many international events, for example for heads of state and government, at EU presidency events, political meetings and a wide range of business, sporting and academic conferences.
Kirsty’s publications include “Note-taking for Public Service Interpreters” and she is currently working on further publications in the field of interpreting to add to this publication.
She is a Chartered Interpreter/Educator, aiic pre-candidate, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Linguists, Fellow of the Institute for Translation and Interpreting (ITI) and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is a full member of the Bundesverband der Übersetzer und Dolmetscher (BDÜ), the VKD BDÜ (German National Association of Conference Interpreters) and several other professional bodies.

Kirsty's research is focused on the applicability of conference interpreting note-taking to the field of public service interpreting and she has published a book entitled “Note-taking in Public Service Interpreting”. She is currently working on a book on interpreter training methods and a guidebook for interpreters.
At UCLan Kirsty is the co-editor of the MFL Academic Journal “Intercultural Promenades: Journal of Modern Languages and International Studies.” She also supervises postgraduate research students in interpreting and translation.
Papers she has given on her research topic of note-taking in interpreting and related areas of interpreting have taken Kirsty across the UK and also Europe and Asia.

As the course leader for the MA Interpreting and Translation, Kirsty teaches all levels of Interpreting with German and English at UCLan as well as most of the professional issues modules relating to active interpreting. She is also a guest lecturer at several UK universities as well as several international interpreting schools in Germany and Poland.
