John joined the School of Sport and Wellbeing in October 2017, having previously taught Physical Education in several schools and colleges for the past thirty four years. He has also held the role of Head of Physical Education and Head of Sixth Form whilst teaching. John’s main sporting interest is in rugby union, and has coached at club and representative level.

Full Profile

John taught Physical Education in a comprehensive school in South Wales before moving to Preston where he became a lecturer at Preston College, until he was appointed as Dean of the Sports Academy.  During his thirteen years at Preston College John introduced the BTEC Leisure and Sports Studies qualifications to the college, and also helped develop the HNC / HND and Foundation Degree Sports Studies programmes in collaboration with UCLan. Since leaving Preston College John has taught in Lancaster, and was Head of Sixth Form at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Blackburn for eight years.

As a Level 4 qualified rugby coach, John has coached several senior clubs in Lancashire, and county teams from schoolboy to senior level. He has also coached the Wales Students National team.
