Gareth joined the university as a lecturer in January 2014; he has studied at UCLan himself completing his nursing diploma in 2003 and his specialist practitioner degree in 2011. Gareth has over 10 years’ experience working as a mental health nurse for the NHS in Lancashire. His main clinical roles have been in community mental health teams and most recently as a senior nurse practitioner working in A&E mental health liaison.
Gareth is a lecturer based within the mental health division of the school of health. He is involved in teaching on a number of modules on the pre-registration mental health nursing degree course as well as offering input into other areas such as adult nursing and paramedic training.
Prior to joining the university in January 2014 Gareth had worked as a registered mental health nurse in the NHS for over 10 years. He also holds registration as a specialist practitioner in community mental health nursing. He has worked in a variety of clinical areas including acute inpatients, day services but mostly as a community mental health nurse in the East Lancashire area. Gareth has held deputy team manager posts and his most recent clinical work was as a senior nurse practitioner in the A&E departments at Preston and Blackpool hospitals.
Gareth has studied here at UCLan on several occasions; he completed his nurse training in 2003 graduating with a diploma. He has completed various CPD modules including mentorship and successfully completed his specialist practice degree award in 2011.

Gareth is not currently involved in any active research projects although he is keen to develop this aspect of his role. He has an interest in the emotional & psychological impact of working as a mental health nurse with individuals who are suicidal.
Gareth has recently joined the school of health’s social media group and is looking to develop the use of social media within the mental health division.
