Subject Areas: Law

Emma is a qualified solicitor with many years of experience. She specialises in litigation and mediation and is an accredited mediator. Since joining the University, she has drawn on her working experience in her teaching and research.

When in practice, Emma specialised in civil and commercial litigation and dispute resolution. She now teaches across a wide range of subjects and programmes, including the undergraduate degree course, postgraduate Legal Practice Course, Professional Skills course and CPD courses. Subject areas covered include Litigation, Commercial Dispute Resolution, Advocacy, Legal Writing, Contract, Mooting, Mediation, with a specialism in mediation. Emma is also the lead of the Mediation Centre and Clinic.

Research

Emma's main research interest is in mediation.

She has had a book review article accepted for publication by the Industrial Relations Journal and is currently working on further articles in this area.

Emma has successfully bid for an Innovation Voucher to pilot mediation training to solicitors, in collaboration with the Lancashire Business School. This was piloted to DWF Solicitors who endorsed the course with an 'excellent'. This is now to be extended to other firms of solicitors.

Emma is currently working on various other Knowledge Transfer activities, namely mediation skills training to mediators, and a postgraduate/accredited mediation course.
