Steve started his academic career at Salford Business School in 1989, moving to UCLan in 1995. Prior to his academic career, Steve worked in the NHS in a variety of roles in planning and general management. He has teaching and research interests in health policy and management. Steve is also one of two Research Degrees Tutors in the School of Management.

Steve is research active within the area of business and management and is a member of the Institute for Research into Organisations, Work and Employment. He is also a member of the Health Research Methodology and Implementation Group.

Full Profile

Steve has 17 years’ experience of working in the NHS and 26 years’ experience in academia. He is a specialist in health policy and management. He has published over 40 articles/ book chapters on these topics. He has substantial experience of designing, delivering and leading NHS specific management programmes, including leadership courses for junior and senior doctors, nurses, managers, and allied health professionals. Steve has also delivered short courses/ CPD for NHS Trusts and the Department of Health.

Steve has also supervised and examined at doctoral level. He is currently co-supervising two PhD students and two DBA students: He has been a reviewer for many journals including British Dental Journal, British Journal of General Management, Health Services Management Research, British Journal of Healthcare Management and a reviewer for grant awarding bodies such as ESRC..Steve’s research output has been returned in the last four national research assessment exercises (RAE and REF) ie 1996 , 2001, 2008, 2013.
