Before joining the University in 2001 Matthias completed his first degree in Computer Science at the University of Applied Sciences in Würzburg, Germany and his MSc in Business Administration (Information Technology) at UCLan. His PhD examined e-business strategies of small businesses. Matthias is the course leader for the Business Information Systems and Business Information Technology undergraduate courses.

Matthias is research active within the area of business and management. He is a member of the Lancashire Institute for Economic and Business Research and the Institute of Logistics and Operations Management.
