North West business leaders gather for creative breakfast forum

Business leaders from across the North West came to the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) to take part in the second Breakfast Forum held at the University’s Media Factory.

The popular event, held in UCLan’s Media Innovation Studio, focused on creative thinking and was run by UCLan’s Lancashire Business School and UCLan’s Innovation and Enterprise Team.

Not only was the event held in the Innovation Studio but the event’s theme revolved around the topic of innovation. All guests were asked to put this skill to the test in a LEGO® Serious Play®Taster Session. The business experts were tasked to build the tallest tower which would then have to withstand a ‘tilt test’ to see if they could stand up when titled at 45 degrees. After discovering how strong (or in some cases weak) their towers were, participants were asked to build models which reflected their personality or their job from Lego.

Representatives from a wide variety of bodies such as Yorkshire Bank and The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment attended the event to network, discuss and learn in the world of business.

Delegates also listened to presentations from the business networking body, the Knowledge Transfer Partner. They also heard presentations from current and former students about their successes in finding a job in businesses such as BskyB - all whilst enjoying a breakfast provided by the University.

“It was also excellent to see examples of pupils move on from UCLan and thrive so well in what can be a tough environment by bringing new ideas and a fresh approach to companies.”

Dharma Kovvuri, Dean of the Lancashire Business School, said: “This was a great event which brought many business people from across the region to express their creativity and share their experiences.

The next Breakfast Forum is scheduled to take part in the summer of this year.
