2012 Guild

The Dark Tourism Symposium 2012

To formally launch the Institute for Dark Tourism Research (iDTR), the University of Central Lancashire will host a special one-day symposium on 24 April 2012 in Preston, UK.

The symposium will comprise of seven internationally renowned keynote speakers on dark tourism:

• Dr Philip Stone (University of Central Lancashire, UK)
• Dr Gilly Carr (The University of Cambridge, UK)
• Dr Tony Johnston (Kings College, London)
• Emeritus Prof. Tony Seaton (University of Bedfordshire, UK)
• Prof. Richard Sharpley (University of Central Lancashire, UK)
• Major Holt (Major and Mrs Holt's Battlefield Guides and Tours)
• Tony Openshaw (Director of Marketing - Lancashire & Blackpool Tourist Board)
A full conference programme and presentation titles will be available soon.

Tickets cost £89 (delegate rate) or £59 (student delegate rate – ID required) and includes:
• Full access to the conference and speakers
• Conference pack (including a collection of dark tourism research papers and teaching & learning resources)
• Morning coffee
• Hot buffet lunch
• Afternoon tea
• Conference table refreshments
• Plenary session and exhibition space for networking.

The symposium is convened by Dr Philip Stone and will be hosted at the University of Central Lancashire’s conference centre at Westleigh, Preston, UK.
