Composites (GRP bodywork) Workshop

 This facility gives students experience of skills relevant to the motorsport industry. They use these skills specifically for the Formula Student competition and to support the Formula Ford cars. Research work is also carried out in this area.

‘Clean’ area

This section of the workshop is kept free of resins and dust to allow the cutting of fibre matting without contamination. It also houses storage freezers for the pre-impregnated fibres and a large high temperature curing oven.

Layup area

This area is for ‘wet layup’ of the composite material. It includes benches for this purpose, a vacuum bench for sanding and a spray booth.
