Greg has always loved sport, so when a career change was required after being injured in an explosion whilst serving with the Army in Afghanistan, he chose to return to education and study a sports related degree. Despite spending seven years out of education he was able to use his experience gained in the Army to achieve a place on the UCLan Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching at Runshaw College. The course was highly recommended by a friend who was a past student.
The smooth transition back into education provided by the team of tutors and fellow students at Runshaw College, as well as the total commitment to his study, enabled Greg to achieve a distinction for his Foundation Degree, something he did not imagine would be possible when he started the course. He has not only managed to achieve outstanding academic results, but has successfully managed to balance studying alongside working in sports education, organising high profile sports events and achieving outstanding sporting goals including the title of Preston’s Strongest Man 2015.
Greg is delighted with is achievements and can't wait to be moving on in September 2016 to study BA (Hons) Sports Coaching Top Up at UCLan Preston. Before leaving the Army he was selected to train soldiers and discovered his vocation for teaching, so on completion of his degree he hopes to pursue a PGCE to enable him to fulfil his career goal of becoming a PE teacher.
