A former English Language degree student who switched his career path has graduated from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) with flying colours.
David Fairhurst, 22, has achieved a First Class Honours degree in Politics from UCLan after utilising the University’s Fresh Start scheme, a unique service which specialises in advising students who wish to change courses. David, who comes from Aspull in Wigan, has excelled in politics after changing his degree course and says it was the best decision he ever made regarding his education.
“I was always passionate about current affairs and realised during my studies that I should have chosen Politics as my original degree choice. It was an easy transition to make and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed studying an interdisciplinary degree which encompassed issues in politics, law, economics and history.” David says his dream job is to work as a researcher and policy advisor for a social, political or governmental organisation and is now applying for a range of graduate employment schemes.
“The Fresh Start team were extremely helpful in providing me with the necessary administrative and technical support regarding my degree course switch. I am thankful of their service and would recommend them to anyone at UCLan who is considering changing their degree of study.”

Debbie Loveday, UCLan’s Fresh Start Manager, commented: “A degree enhances a lifetime of opportunity but the choice of which degree to study is integral to a great student experience. David has shown great determination to follow his dream and graduate from the University. I’m delighted that Fresh Start had a helping hand in getting him on the course of his choice.”
