Unlike most law students who opt for the route of continuing on to postgraduate study or locate a training scheme, Abigail put her experience of being a Law student into good use and recently secured a much sought-after place on the “Graduate Scheme: Future Leader Programme” for one of the UK’s largest banks.
Abigail explained: “I chose to study here at UCLan because I wanted to stay local and after looking around other Law Schools in the North West it was the Lancashire Law School that stood out to me because of its wonderful facilities such as the Moot Court Room, lecture theatres and the overall University environment.
“I’ve really liked my experience here and the tutors have always been there for me. On a personal level, Jane Anthony has been really supportive. In the second year she was my Criminal Law tutor and always helped when I was struggling; I managed to gain a first in that particular exam. Jane is now my dissertation tutor and is constantly engaging and giving me structured feedback.
“The interviewing and negotiation module opened my mind to graduate schemes. The module taught me about the importance of group work, negotiation and interview skills. The negotiation skills particularly helped me in the interview for the Graduate Scheme as they taught me to sit back, listen and think when taking in lots of information, and to not always be domineering.
The legal research and reasoning module with Michael Doherty was also valuable in terms of helping me create a first class CV - we were encouraged and aided to create our CV right from the beginning of the course.”
With only two more exams and one more assignment left to finish and submit here at UCLan, we wish Abigail all the luck in her future law career.
