What if I can't make one of the Open Day dates?

Preston Campus

If you can’t make an Open Day, check out our visit dates Campus Tour Extra for undergraduate courses or Meet a Tutor – Postgraduate Evening Sessions for postgraduate at our Preston Campus.

Chat one to one with academics and get advice from students, <i> information advisors or our accommodation team. Campus Tours run every Wednesday, Meet a Tutor on selected Wednesdays and we're also able to accommodate other dates when booked in advance. You can also pop by and explore at your leisure thanks to our Self-guided Campus Tours.

Burnley Campus

If you can’t make an Open Day, and would like to chat one to one with a tutor and get advice please email uclanburnley@uclan.ac.uk before you visit. To visit and have a general look around Burnley, you can book on to a Campus Tour which run Mondays to Fridays.

Do I need to register for a place on the Open Day? How do I register?

Preston Campus

We recommend you book, as we will send you useful tips and information to help you and us to plan your day. Although we prefer pre-booking, you are welcome to register on the day at our check-in locations at Harrington Building and Engineering Innovation Centre. Book online here.

Burnley Campus

We recommend you book beforehand, as we will send you useful tips and information to help you and us to plan your day. Although we prefer that you pre-register, you are welcome to arrive on the day at our check-in location – UCLan Burnley, Victoria Mill, Trafalgar Street, BB11 1RA. You can register here.

Do I need to attend Open Day for the full day?

Preston Campus

We advise you arrive before 12 noon to really make the most of what is on offer. Check our full programme before you arrive to make sure you can plan the day out and have enough time to cover everything.

Our guide to really make the most of Open Day:

  • Attend at least 1 subject talk (undergraduate only) approx. 1 hour
  • Have a campus/accommodation tour 1 hour
  • Visit our subject showcases and Student Support Information Zone approx. 1 hour
  • Go to a Student Services Talk 45 mins

Total time spent at UCLan Preston Open Day – 3 hours 45 mins

Optional - Personal Statement Workshop 30 mins

Total time spent at UCLan Open Day – 4 hours 15 mins

Burnley Campus

Our advice is to arrive before 12 noon to really make the most out of Open Day.

  • Go to the Student Services Talk 20 mins
  • Have a Campus Tour approx. 45 mins
  • Talk to Tutor and Student Support Services approx. 1 hour

Will I get more information sent to me by email?

Preston and Burnley Campus

You should receive a booking confirmation email with travel information, a unique QR code for a fast-track check in and your programme - if you book a couple of weeks before.

We will also send you:

  • Top tips for Open Day from our current students
  • Your programme, if you haven’t received it already

Who can I bring with me and is there a limit of how many people?

Preston and Burnley Campus

Whoever you like…We know choosing a university isn’t easy and you’ll be looking to family and friends to help you decide, so please feel free to bring them along. (No pets though, except guide dogs!)

Require a BSL interpreter?

Please tell us as soon as possible so that we can ensure an interpreter is booked for you in advance.

What time should I arrive?

Preston and Burnley Campus

Check-in is open from 9am, we recommend you at least arrive before 12 noon to give yourself enough time to fit in activities – no one likes to rush!

To plan ahead, check our Open Day programmes.

Where can I park on the day?

Preston Campus

All car parks are shown on the campus map (see your programme); we advise that you head for Victoria or Fylde Road car parks. One of our friendly attendants will help you.

Burnley Campus

Victoria Mill car park on Trafalgar Street is available free of charge on Open Days, or nearby public car parks are shown on the map.

I’m travelling on the train. How will I find the University?

Preston Campus

If you are travelling to Preston railway station, look out for our current students dressed in all red. They will direct you to the free UCLan shuttle bus. If you prefer walking, ask the students for directions as it is only a 10-minute walk from the station.

Burnley Campus

There are three railway stations for Burnley (check them out on the map):

  • Burnley Central
  • Burnley Manchester Road
  • Burnley Barracks

Our UCLan students in red t-shirts will be able to direct you to Burnley Campus, Victoria Mill.

I'm travelling on the bus. How will I find the University?

Preston Campus

From Preston bus station, the number 31 bus service runs every 15 minutes and stops outside C&T Building, which is opposite the Students' Union.

If you want to walk – it is only a 10 to 15 min walk. You use Google Maps to one of our check in locations i.e. Harrington Building or Engineering Innovation Centre or you can use the map in your programme.

Burnley Campus

Burnley Campus is situated on regular major bus routes to and from Preston, Blackburn and Manchester. UCLan Burnley, Victoria Mill is approx. 10 – 15 minute walk from Burnley Bus Station. Check out our handy map for directions or you can use Google Maps using the postcode ‘BB11 1RA.’

Where should I go when I arrive?

Preston Campus

Go to the check-in desks in Harrington Building or Engineering Innovation Centre.

At check-in you will receive:

  • A programme and what’s on information
  • Directions to your subject showcase or talk(s)
  • Guidance on planning your day
  • An Undergraduate or Postgraduate Lanyard (to help us identify you around campus)

Burnley Campus

Go to the check-in desk at Victoria Mill on Trafalgar Street.

At check-in you will receive:

  • A programme and what’s on information
  • Directions to your subject showcase
  • Guidance on where to go and what information you can get on the day

Do you have WiFi?

Preston and Burnley Campus

WiFi is free on campus – just select UCLan Open and follow the steps.

Will I be able to find out about Student Accommodation?

Preston Campus

Go to the Student Services talk (see programme for times and location) or you can speak to a team member in the Information Zone all day to have a chat about our Accommodation services.

Tours will run every 30 minutes from the Students’ Union on Fylde Road.

Burnley Campus

As part of the expansion plans for Burnley Campus, a brand new halls of residence will be ready for September 2020! Currently, students reside in high quality shared housing rented directly from landlords or some of our students live in our Preston Halls of Residence as there is a regular bus and train service to Preston. At the Open Day, there will be an Accommodation information stand for any questions.

Will information on Student Finance be available?

Preston Campus

Go to the Student Services talk (see programme for times and location) or speak to a team member in the Information Zone all day to have a chat about Student Finance.

Burnley Campus

Yes, you can speak to a team member at our Student Finance stand – just ask at check-in and our staff will be able to point you in the right direction.
