Frequently Asked Questions

What if I can't make one of the Open Day dates?

We have a number of Open Days taking place throughout the year at our Preston and Burnley campuses. If you can't make one of these dates you can book onto our Campus Tour Extra or one of our standard Campus Tours – find out more about other great ways to visit our Preston Campus or to visit Burnley.

Do I need to register for a place on the Open Day?

We recommend that you pre-register for the Open Day, as this will enable us to send you relevant information in advance. You can then plan your day to make the most of your time, and we will be able to plan for your arrival. Although we prefer that you pre-register for the event, you will still be welcome to attend on the day.

How do I register?

When we have an upcoming Open Day, you can book via our Online Form.

What will you send me when I register?

You will receive an email confirming that you have registered, with a link to the programme enabling you to plan your day. This email will contain your QR code for check-in, so please ensure you have this email with you either on your phone or printed on the day. We’ll also send you travel information if you are travelling.

Who can I bring with me?

Whoever you like! We know choosing a university isn’t easy and you’ll be looking to family and friends to help you decide, so please feel free to bring them along on the day. (No pets though, except guide dogs!)

I have a disability; do I need to let you know?

If you require assistance, we ask that you call us on +44 (0)1772 892400 to discuss your needs. If you require a BSL interpreter, it is important that you let us know as soon as possible so that we can ensure an interpreter is booked for you on the day.

What time should I arrive?

Open Days run from 9am until 3pm with check-in taking place from 9am. We strongly advise that you arrive in good time, preferably before 12 noon, so that you are able to do all of the things that are important to you. Therefore, we recommend that you take a look at the programme before you come and spend some time planning your day.

Where can I park on the day?

All the car parks are shown on the campus map in the programme; we advise that you head for Victoria or Fylde Road car parks as attendants will be there to help you find a parking space. Parking on all University car parks will be free of charge at the Open Days. If you are visiting Burnley, the Victoria Mill car park on Trafalgar Street is available free of charge on Open Days, or nearby public car parks are shown on the map.

I’m travelling on the train. How will I find the University?

If you are travelling to Preston railway station, look out for the University Student Ambassadors – you will recognise them by their red t-shirts. They will be able to direct you on to a shuttle bus that will take you to the University. Alternatively, you can ask a Student Ambassador for directions as the University is only a 10-minute walk from the station.  There are three railway stations for Burnley, indicated on the map, University Student Ambassadors in red t-shirts will also be able to direct you to the Burnley Campus, Victoria Mill.

I'm travelling on the bus. How will I find the University?

From Preston bus station, the number 31 bus service runs every 15 minutes and stops outside C&T Building, which is opposite the Students' Union.  From Burnley stations, it is a short walk to Victoria Mill, and preferred walking routes are indicated on the map.

Where should I go when I arrive?

For our Preston Campus Open Days, we ask that all visitors report to one of the check-in desks in Harrington Foyer or the Engineering Innovation Centre. For the Burnley Campus Open Days, we ask that all visitors report to the check-in desk at Victoria Mill.  This enables us to confirm your registration, update you with any changes, help you plan your day and give you a programme for the day!

Do you have WiFi?

There is complimentary WiFi on campus – simply select UCLan Open.

Will I be able to find out about Student Accommodation?

At the Preston Campus Open Day, there will be a talk discussing the various types of accommodation UCLan has to offer. Should you miss the talk, there will also be an information stand where you can obtain the relevant accommodation details. A range of different types of accommodation will be available to view and our accommodation staff will be in the flats to provide further information.  At the Burnley Campus Open Day, there will be an information stand where you can obtain all the relevant accommodation details.

Will information on Student Finance be available?

At the Preston Campus Open Day, a number of student finance talks will take place throughout the day. Please see your Open Day programme for times and venues. Additionally, a team of student advisors will be on hand to talk to you on a one-to-one basis on the day.  At the Burnley Campus Open Day, there will be an information stand where you can obtain all the relevant student finance information.
