Combine your passion for football with developing the specialist skills to manage the rehab and recovery of athletes.

This unique degree combines our Football Player Development Programme with Sports Therapy. In partnership with Macclesfield FC we offer coaching in a professional environment from UEFA qualified coaches. As well as the opportunity to play football for the University’s Football Clubs (men’s and women’s) as part of your studies. If selected, you'll have opportunities to progress through to U21, U23, Reserve and First Team levels of football.

You'll play 30 fixtures per year, complimented by a personised training and coaching programme. You'll also develop crucial hands-on skills and experience as you learn to become a Sports Therapist. Learn to develop sport-specific rehabilitation programmes based on performing detailed injury assessments. Whilst refining your delivery in a clinical placement setting.

We work with over 120 placement providers across the North West. Including professional and amateur level sports clubs, such as:

Wigan Warriors
Everton FC
Preston North End
Blackpool FC
St Helens RFC
Burnley FC
Warrington Wolves
Wakefield Wildcats

This means we focus on helping you develop a contemporary and relevant industry skill set for the real world.

There are also coaching opportunities and funding options for FA Level 1, FA Level 2 and UEFA B Licensed coaching football courses.

What you'll do

Develop both on and off the field to become the best version of yourself and gain a recognised qualification in the process.
Receive professional football coaching, including performance analysis, strength and conditioning and nutrition.
Take part in a unique partnership programme between the University and Macclesfield FC. Staff from both organisations will help you develop professionally.

Accreditations

This course has been designed with the support of its accrediting body, the SST, the lead organisation for Sports Therapists in the UK. On graduation you will be eligible for full membership of the organisation.

Industry Links

Tracing their history back to 1874 they are one of the oldest clubs in the UK. We work closely with them to combine academic learning and development in a professional football club environment.

Future careers in football

On our Sport Therapy degree with Football Player Development Programme, you can shape your career in professional sport.

This is a unique degree programme combining professional practice with a football focus. You'll work with real sportspeople, within in both academic and professional club environments. Helping you to develop the skills and experience that private practices, teams and clubs look for. We provide career support and offer guidance to help you build you own professional network.

You'll have the option to work in our student-led Sports Therapy and Sports Massage Clinic on the Preston Campus. This is a fully-functional injury clinic which sits alongside our Movement Analysis Lab. These facilities will help increase your practical experience even further.
