This module provides an introduction to key sociological debates and aims to introduce you to the concept of social justice and how this is relevant to contemporary social work practice and its application.

This module provides theoretical approaches to the understanding of physical and psychological life from infancy to old age. If you are studying the non-apprenticeship route this module will contribute to the studies practical application.

This module will introduce you to contemporary legislative frameworks for risk assessment and safeguarding and promoting the physical health and welfare of children, apprentices and vulnerable adults. This ensures your readiness in law for safe and effective practice.

This module aims to prepare you for practice, learning, and demonstration of the conduct, performance and ethics required for social work on your first placement. With an introduction to the values, role and responsibilities of the professional social worker. 

This module will introduce you to the knowledge base, skills and values that underpin effective communication for social work practice. You will be introduced to the concepts of emotional intelligence, use of self, resilience and helped to understand how self-knowledge and insight is integral to effective social work practice.

This module will provide you with opportunities to critically apply law, policy and practice in respect of children, families and young people. You will develop an awareness of the application and processes of legal duties that inform safeguarding, care planning and decision making in a variety of social work settings.

This module will help you to develop your confidence in identifying and applying social perspectives to mental health. A critical examination of the socio-legal contexts of mental health work is a core feature of the module. You will develop an awareness of the knowledge, skills and values you must apply when working with people in mental distress.

This module provides the opportunity to complete a practice placement of the length required by the social work regulator. The placement practice opportunity will enable you to meet and work with people with lived experience of social work practice.

The module gives this practical experience and provides you with opportunities to demonstrate professional behaviour, conduct, performance and ethics outlined by the regulator.

The module allows you to undertake an in-depth study on a project of your choice, as agreed with the project supervisor. The module aims to develop a critical and in-depth understanding of a particular topic of interest, and to identify and explore aspects of social care not covered in other modules.

This module aims to address social work practice with adult service users and carers in diverse contexts.  You will explore service user and carer perspectives and consolidate your learning around legislation and policy that guides and informs your critical understanding of the work within adult contexts.

This module will enable you to develop a ‘research-mindedness’ approach to your practice by accessing databases, assessing, interpreting and applying research into a literature review.  The content will focus on research informed practice with various service user groups.

This module aims to consolidate and enhance your understanding of relationship-based practice in social work. Recognising and understanding that professional thinking and practice must engage with the complexities and uncertainties of human experiences. 

This module provides opportunities for you to continue your professional development consolidating from your first social work placement. Providing opportunities to develop your social work skills and knowledge and continue to develop your professional identity. You will be located in a practice setting which will meet the professional standards for social work and will help you improve your skills and understanding.
