Overview

The Institute for the Study of the Asia Pacific (ISAP) at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is offering a MA scholarship in Asia Pacific Studies to students of any nationality for 2022/23 academic year. Successful applicants will be highly motivated students who display high quality critical study of the Asia Pacific in their proposal and excellent academic grades in a relevant undergraduate course.

Successful MA Asia Pacific Studies candidates will be expected to work as an institute research assistant for the duration of their study (up to 3 hours per week). This scholarship is funded by the Institute for the Study of the Asia Pacific (ISAP), based within the School of Humanities, Language, and Global Studies at UCLan. ISAP was launched as a umbrella institute to incorporate a number of other institutes and centres centred on Asia Pacific studies. These include: The International Institute of Korean Studies (IKSU), the Northern Institute of Taiwan Studies (NorITS), the Institute for Japanese Studies (IJS), the Northern England Policy Centre for the Asia Pacific (NEPCAP), and the Centre of Austronesian Studies (COAST).

Please include “MA APS Scholarship Application” and your full name in the Subject line of your email. Ensure you attach the confirmation receipt of your place on the MA Asia Pacific Studies Course or Application number (starting with a G) if you have not yet received confirmation. Failure to do so will result in disqualification of the scholarship application.

Your application should include:

  • A provisional proposal for your MA dissertation (maximum of 250 words)
  • A confirmed place on MA Asia Pacific Studies at UCLan (You will need to attach the confirmation receipt of your place on the course in your application email.)
  • A good undergraduate academic performance (minimum 2:1) in any subject (you will received ‘conditional’ offer if you have not graduated yet.)

Closing date for receipt of applications: 4 July 2022

In case you have not achieved your BA degree (2:1 or above) by 4 July 2022, you will need to submit your final grades by 30 July 2022.
