Breaking down the language barriers in academic study and everyday life

If English is not your first language there are a range of opportunities to improve your academic English, including regular one-to-one tutorials, workshops throughout the year and taught year-long modules starting in September. All events are supported by a team specialist academics of English Language in the Language Academy who are trained to assess and help with your personal language needs.

The UCLan TESOL team (Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages) also offer General English Classes supported by trainee teachers under supervision, which are available to members of the public as well as students. One-to-one Tutorials (English Language)

Tutorials are a series of 20 minute meetings with one of the Academic English tutors from the Language Academy. These tutorials are tailored to support your individual needs; we will work with you to discover what you need support with and you will see your tutor a number of times to work on your chosen areas of study. You can be supported with a specific assignment, or with your general Academic English. You can be referred for tutorials by your tutor or you can do it yourself - referrals are done via the Starfish application on the Student Support pages.

Please note, tutorials are requested by referral on Starfish, either by a course tutor or self-referral.
