Mentoring by Students

We believe that sometimes the best person to give students advice and tips about how to get the most of the UCLan experience is other more experienced students who have been exactly where you are.

We work with current UCLan students from right across the university, from all different backgrounds, doing a variety of courses.

Each one has their own unique experience to share and many have overcome challenges of their own and want to share their journeys with you so that you can ensure you have the very best experience that UCLan has to offer.


Once you have started your course, if you are interested in having a mentor, or becoming a mentor at the end of your first year, then please get in touch. We welcome applications from all students.

We offer two exciting programmes, both of which are flexible and easy to access. Please take a look and see which programme may be the best fit for you, or get in touch and we can help advise you which may benefit you the most.


Peer Mentoring


Our Peer Mentoring Programme is a great way of making contact with a more experienced fellow student who may be able to offer some useful advice and tips to help you get the most from your UCLan experience.

This is an online programme where you can select your own Mentor and ask them questions about University life such as…

• Useful tips and Advice
• Information about services
• Information on how to get involved, eg. student Clubs/societies
• Getting to grips with University processes
• Adapting to a new culture
• Finding out about transport and getting about
• Finding things to do and places of interest in Preston
• Achieving a good life/study balance
• Study Skills and Revision Tips
• Sports / Gym Buddies

Wellbeing Mentoring

We know University life can be difficult at times and we know that everyone can benefit from having someone to talk to. Our volunteer Wellbeing Student Mentors will meet you on a one to one basis either weekly or fortnightly, whatever works best for you. You can talk to them in confidence and if they can't help, they can help you find someone that will.

Our Student Mentors come from all walks of life, different ages and genders, and from a variety of different UCLan courses and schools. They are committed and enthusiastic about providing support to new and existing students and you will find them to be friendly and non-judgemental. Mentors are selected for you based on the information you provide and we will make every effort to find the right Mentor just for you.

This is 1-2-1, face-to-face and more in-depth mentoring programme that allows students to support other students to get the most out of their UCLan experience. We can help with:

• Confidential support
• Emotional, health and wellbeing Support
• Dealing with challenges, overcoming obstacles
• Signposting to health and Wellbeing services
• Supporting , Listening, Encouraging
• Making friends / Social struggles
• Keeping motivated
• Building Confidence and Improving Self Esteem
