If you’re new to University life, you’ve probably already heard about Welcome Week, or Freshers’ as it’s sometimes called. It starts next week and is a weeklong programme of events to help you get settled here, register for clubs and societies and meet new friends. It’s got an iconic reputation as being the fun bit before the hard work really starts, but it’s also a chance to do the less exciting but necessary bits of admin needed.
There’s so much going on during Welcome and if you’re a new student you’ll have had a lot of the information already, from us and from friends and family. It might feel like information overload, so we wanted to make it easy and highlight the two essential things you need to prioritise during Welcome (as well as having fun!). If you do these, everything else will become clear when you get here:
Enrolment is the online process that confirms your status as a student at the University of Central Lancashire. It’s compulsory for all UCLan students including those at UK and overseas Partner institutions. You can find out more and enrol online.
Registration is the process you do on campus, so we can verify your personal ID and personal details are accurate and verify your attendance so the Student Loans Company can release finance. When you get here you’re expected to attend a drop-in Registration event during Welcome Week. Find out more about registration and the documents you need to bring.
Some courses have essential information that you should read before you get here and begin your studies. Depending on what you’re studying, you may need to find out about reading lists, or essential equipment. You can look this up for your course.
Your course may also have specific events, like inductions or welcome addresses from your lecturers. It’s worth familiarising yourself with the personalised calendar you’ve been sent, or the online calendar of activity for your course.
Best bet is to have a good look around our Welcome webpages.
There are specific sections and guides online for Undergraduate students, Postgraduate students, International Students, and Degree Apprenticeship students. There is also specific information about Burnley and Westlakes Welcome plans.
Our friendly team is on hand to answer any of your questions – from enrolment to finance, study support and support with accessibility needs or wellbeing.
