The university is recognising and supporting key workers in several ways and we’re inviting you to join in by taking part in our clap for carers video.

Clap for carers video

On Thursday at 8pm we have started sharing clapping videos on social media, to show support for everyone working in the NHS, the care sector, and all our key workers who are keeping the country running.

We'd like to share a different one every week, so if you would like to be part of our future videos, please send us videos of you clapping at home, in your halls or other accommodation, using these instructions:

  1. Record your video in a landscape format using your mobile phone. Rotating your phone to a horizontal position will record video as intended in a wide-screen format.
  2. Send your video to It only needs to be up to 15 seconds long and can include your family and/or pets as well as yourself. The more creative, the better.

One minute silence

At 11am on Tuesday 28 April, students and colleagues stopped for a moment of reflection and joined in a minute’s silence to pay our respects and give thanks to those whose work involves caring, saving lives, keeping key services running, as well as showing our support for the families of those who have died.

We joined the national tribute on International Workers Memorial Day, the day which every year commemorates workers who have died around the globe.
