Electronic Books

  • PEP Web - a digital archive of many of the major works of psychoanalysis. It includes the complete works of Sigmund Freud, an archive of works from 56 psychoanalytic journals (1920-2010) and complete versions of other classic psychoanalytic texts.
  • Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) - Used by clinicians and researchers to diagnose and classify mental disorders. Our subscription includes access to DSM-5, DSM-5 Clinical Cases, and the DSM-5 Handbook of Differential Diagnosis.

Searching for journal articles (Subject-specific journal databases)

  • PsycInfo
    The American Psychological Association’s (APA) resource for abstracts of scholarly journal articles, book chapters, books, and dissertations, is the largest resource devoted to peer-reviewed literature in behavioural science and mental health.
  • PsycArticles
    The American Psychological Association's (APA), definitive source of full-text, peer-reviewed scholarly and scientific articles in psychology. The database contains approximately 150,000 articles from over 70 journals
  • CINAHL
    An authoritative resource for nursing and allied health professionals, students, educators and researchers. This database provides indexing for 2,857 journals and the full text of 560 titles
  • ProQuest Hospital Collection
    Comprises the ProQuest Psychology, Health & Medical Complete, Health Management, and Nursing & Allied Health databases.
  • Child Development & Adolescent Studies
    Indexing and abstracts for the literature on the growth and development of children through to the age of 21.
  • ERIC [Education Resources Information Center]
    An online digital library of education research and information, ERIC provides ready access to education literature to support the use of educational research and information to improve practice in learning, teaching, educational decision-making, and research.
  • Maternity and Infant Care [MIDIRS]
    Contains over 120,000 references with abstracts to journal articles from over 550 international English language journals, books, and grey literature relating to pregnancy, labour, birth, postnatal care, and neonatal care and the first year of an infant’s life.
  • Project Muse
    A collection of 384 full text journals from over 70 scholarly publishers. Subject areas include: cultural studies, education, and gender studies.
  • SocINDEX™ with Full Text
    A sociology research database. Its extensive scope and content provide users with a wealth of extremely useful information encompassing the broad spectrum of sociological study.
  • Social Work Abstracts Plus
    Produced by the National Association of Social Workers, contains more than 45,000 records from social work and other related journals on topics such as homelessness, AIDS, child and family welfare, aging, substance abuse, legislation, community organization, and more.

Searching for journal articles (Abstracting & indexing databases)

Should you want to undertake a more thorough search for research materials/literature, try searching the following abstract and indexing databases. Unlike our other databases, generally you will only find the abstract of articles within these databases. Conference papers are also available too.

UCLan subscribes to a range of additional e-resources, aside from the e-journals, which you will not find freely available on the Web. Within the psychology discipline you may find the following useful: 

  • Cochrane Library
    Regularly updated collection of evidence-based medicine databases, including The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews which provide high quality information to people providing and receiving care and those responsible for research, teaching, funding and administration at all levels
  • Nexis
    Full-text database of news drawn from over 29,000 sources. These sources include local, regional and national newspapers, newsletters, magazines and trade journals, newswires, broadcast transcripts, company news databases, government documents, legislation and legal journals.
  • SAGE Research Methods
    a tool created to help researchers, faculty and students with their research projects. It contains content from more than 640 books, dictionaries, encyclopaedias, and handbooks.
  • Zetoc
    Provides access to the British Library's Electronic Table of Contents of current journals and conference proceedings.
