Books

To find books on the Library shelves, use Library Search. If the Library does not have the book you want, you can request a copy from the Document Supply Service.

Journals and Articles

If you have a reference for a particular journal article, or if you want to find out if we take a particular journal title, use the Journal Finder.

eResources and Databases

A database is an index to published journal articles.

If you want to search for journal articles on a particular topic within the outdoors subject discipline, the main electronic journals databases to search are:

  • Education Database provides access to over 800 education journals in full text.  You can also cross search with the Australian Education Index.
  • British Education Index covers aspects of educational policy and administration, evaluation and assessment, technology and special educational needs.
  • Child Development & Adolescent Studies covers literature on the growth and development of children through to the age of 21.
  • Education Abstracts features adult education, comparative education, government funding, higher education, school administration and teacher evaluation.
  • Educational Administration Abstracts includes bibliographic records covering areas related to educational administration, including educational leadership, educational management, educational research.
  • ERIC (Education Resources Information Center) provides access to education literature to support the use of educational research and information to improve practice in learning, teaching, educational decision-making and research.
  • Hospitality and Tourism Complete - articles on all areas of recreation, e.g. adventure tourism
  • Proquest Central - Multiple databases across all major subject areas, including business, health and medical, social sciences, arts and humanities, education, science and technology, and religion.
  • Science Direct - 1500 scientific, technical and medical full-text journals
  • SPORTDiscus FullText - a range of leisure & recreation journals, e.g. ‘Leisure Management’, ‘Countryside Recreation’
  • Taylor & Francis Library - journal subscriptions including 58 titles in the Sport and Leisure area.

Additional Resources

 

  • Digimap - view and create maps of any location in Great Britain using Ordnance Survey map data. Users can also download Ordnance Survey map data for use in other software packages, such as Geographical Information Systems (GIS), drawing software and CAD.
  • Nexis - a full-text database of news drawn from over 29,000 sources. These sources include local, regional and national newspapers, newsletters, magazines and trade journals, newswires, broadcast transcripts, company news databases, government documents, legislation and legal journals.
  • Scopus - Abstract and indexing service
